Will Gonzales - Head Coach
Coach Gonzales begins his third year a head
coach of the Dons. He was born in Santa Barbara and attended San
Marcos High School. Before he graduated in 1986, he was a Varsity
letterman in football, basketball and baseball. He was an All-Western
State Conference selection as a Center. He went on to receive a
football scholarship to Cal State Northridge where he played for
one year. In 2001, he received a BA degree in Sociology from Cal
State Hayward. He returned to Santa Barbara and began teaching
and coaching at San Marcos High School. His San Marcos coaching
career involved 10 years as a football coach of which 5 years he
served as head coach. While at San Marcos he led his team in 4
CIF appearances, 3 City Championships and received the Channel
League Coach of the Year in both 2002 and 2004. Coach Gonzales
is married to Barbara, who is a First Grade teacher at Montecito
Union. They have been married for 11 years and they have two sons,
Jackson (6) and Grant (4). |

Jaime Melgoza - Defensive Coordinator
Coach Melgoza says the game
and coaching is all about the kids. He was born and raised in
Santa
Barbara and graduated from Santa Barbara High School in 1982. He
played two
years of varsity football (23-4 record) and varsity baseball.
While playing football, he was chosen as an All-League Linebacker
and Offensive Guard for two years. He went on to play football at
Santa Barbara City College. For the last 14 years, he has been coaching
Santa Barbara
High School football as the J.V. Head Coach and as
an Assistant Varsity Coach. He has also
spent 10 years coaching in
the youth football and sports programs. He married Robin
(Ledford),
his high school sweetheart. They have three children, Candace (16),
Amber (10)
and Zach (Buddy age 6). Coach Melgoza spends his free
time playing golf and basketball
(with his high school buddies),
and watching his kids play sports. |

Robert Allen - Inside Receivers
Coach Allen begins his first year coaching with the DONS. He was born
in Rota, Spain and graduated from Santa Barbara High School in
1997, where he was a Varsity letterman in football and track & field.
He attended Allan Hancock College where he studied journalism
and film. For the past 10 years, Coach Allen has been involved
in the traveling all-stars basketball program at the Santa Barbara
Boys & Girls Club. He has also participated as a coach in the
Santa Barbara Youth Football League where many of our current varsity
players began their playing days. |

Sergio Barbosa - Offensive Assistant
Sergio is entering his sixth year of coaching, and his third season
coaching at Santa Barbara High School. He played and graduated
from San Marcos High School in 1996 where he was a member of a
Channel League Championship team directed under Coach Bobbie Brown.
He attended Santa Barbara City College and later went on to earn
his Bachelor of Arts Degree at UC Santa Barbara in 2004. He has
lived his entire life in Santa Barbara until recently when he moved
to Ventura. |

Bill Brace - Linebackers & Special
Teams
Coach Brace was born and raised in Santa Barbara graduating from
Santa Barbara High School in 1982. He currently resides in Santa
Barbara with his wife Meredith (Class of 1982) and two children:
Bolden (Class of 2016) and Georgia (Class of 2019). He is Vice
President of Investec Management Corporation and has worked for
the company since 1995. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree
from San Diego State University in 1987. During his varsity football
career with the Dons, he was chosen as Co-Captain for the 1981
season and earned the honor of First Team All Channel League and
First Team All CIF as a middle linebacker. The Dons’ record
during the 1980 and 1981 season was 24-4 with a visit to the CIF
Finals in 1980. This will be Coach Brace’s second year coaching
the Dons and he will be focusing on the development of the linebacker
corps. He has five years experience coaching youth football. |

Doug Caines - Offensive Line & Defensive
Line
Coach Caines graduated from Santa Barbara High School in the year 2000.
He played two years of varsity football as well as one year of
varsity track. He was All-League both years in football and represented
the Dons in the 2000 All-County All Star football game. Coach
Caines is the offensive line coach in his third year at SBHS and
a second generation Santa Barbara Don. |

Steve Dudley - Wide Receivers
Coach Dudley is a member of the SBHS Class of 1975. While at the high
school, he was a wide receiver and free safety for the Dons. In
1975, he won the Don Hardnose Award, the best all around player's
award, and was selected as All League. He played in the 1975 Shrine
game. His football career continued on at SBCC and USC. Following
his college career, Steve was a free agent with the Dallas Cowboys
and the Seattle Seahawks. He has 21 years of coaching experience,
which was spread among Eastern Oregon University, SBCC and San
Marcos High School. He has coached baseball as well as football.
This is his second year as the Dons Wide Receivers coach. |

Nate Einsiedler - Running Backs/Assistant Defensive
Backs
Coach Einsiedler is entering his first year coaching at Santa Barbara
High, and is extremely grateful for his oppurtunity to coach varsity
football. He is currently a senior at UCSB,
where he majors in mathematics,
and minors in athletic coaching. Born and raised in the
heart of Los
Angeles, West Hills, he played football at Grover Cleveland High School.
Although his coaching career has just begun, his resume inculdes three
years of coaching
youth football, and he is concurrently coaching the
2008 Bantam Bears. Coach Einsiedler
is quite passionate about the game
of football because he feels is teaches players life’s
greatest lessons:
hard work, leadership, sportsmanship, poise, and team work. His
ultimate
goal is to continue to establish a positive and winning culture for
the Dons. |

Hector Gonzales - Quarterbacks
Hector begins his third season coaching at Santa Barbara High School.
He received his B.A. in Sociology from Cal State Northridge University
and his M.A. in Education from the University of La Verne. Both
Hector and his wife Krista are elementary school teachers. They
have two children, Luke and Isabella. |

Matt Klinger - Outside Line
Backers/ Offensive & Defensive
Line
Coach Klinger will begin his first year coaching at Santa Barbara High.
He is currently a
physical education teacher at Rosevelt Elementry
school in Santa Barbara. Before
coming to Santa Barbara, he was an
Assistant Football Coach at Camarillo High School. He graduated from
Camarillo High School in 1997 and was a member of the 1996 CIF division
3 championship football team that beat the Sherman Oaks Dame (20-14)
led by current
Raiders running back Justin Fargas. Coach Klinger attended
college at Chico State University where he earned a BA in physical
education, and was also a member of the Men's
Rugby Team. He currently
lives in Carpinteria with his girlfriend Cristina. |

John Livingston - Outside Receivers
Coach Livingston returns to the game of football, after a 13 year hiatus.
He wanted to take a shot at giving back to a sport that has given
him so much. Coach Livingston was born in San Clemente, CA. He
attended Hemet High School in Riverside County, where he obtained
3 varsity letters in football and track. In football, Coach Livingston
earned All League and All County honors. He also attended Palomar
Junior College where he played on the 1992 National Championship
team, compiling a record after two years of 20-2. Along with reciving
his Associate Degree, he was honored with All-State honors as a
wide receiver, of which he led the state of California in the JC
Grid-Wire. These accom- plishments earned Coach Livingston the
distinct honor of accepting a full athletic scholarship to the
University of Nebraska at Lincoln. Once again, he was able to be
a part of a National Championship team. In the 1994-95 season,
the Cornhuskers completed a perfect season of 13-0 defeating the
University of Miami, in Miami, for the Division 1 National Champion.
Coach Livingston has not coached at any level, but brings a great
sense of humor and an eye for exceptional talent in the sport he
loves. Coach Livingston currently lives in Santa Ynez with his
fiancé, Caitlin Simpson and their dog, while teaching middle school
Language Arts and History at Santa Ynez Charter School. |

Gregg Luna - Running
Backs & Special Teams
This is Coach Luna's 20th year of coaching and his third year of coaching
at SBHS. He
grew up in Santa Barbara and attended San Marcos High
School and graduated with
Coach Gonzales in 1986. He lived in Barcelona,
Spain for 3 years and coached in the Semi
Pro Football League while
he lived abroad. He is presently a Spanish teacher at Laguna Blanca
High School where he also coaches the Girls Soccer Team. While
school is out of session,
Coach Luna spends his summers teaching
football camps in Switzerland and Barcelona.
He will spend the
season coaching the offensive and defensive lines. |

Paul Nicholson - Defensive Backs
Paul was born and raised in Santa Barbara and graduated from Santa
Barbara High School in 1982. A two time Golden Tornado, Paul started
on both sides of the football during the 1980 and 1981 football
seasons. In 1981, he was the team MVP, Channel League co-offensive
player of the year, All CIF as a defensive back and Athletic Roundtable
football player of the year. Paul also played basketball and ran
track for the Dons. After high school, Paul attended SBCC and the
University of Utah, playing football for both schools. This is
Paul’s fifth year coaching the Dons, helping to "give
back to those who gave to me." He and his wife Cindy have
two children, Amanda age 12 and Jeremiah age 9. |

James Rogers - Linebackers & Special
Teams
James played football at Skyview High School in Vancouver, WA where
he was a two-year
All Conference inside linebacker. He spent his
college years at Carnegie Mellon University,
in Pittsburgh, PA
where he double majored in Materials Science and Engineering and
Biomedical Engineering. He graduated in 2007 and was a four-year
starter on Carnegie Mellon’s football team. In addition he
was a two-year All Conference linebacker selection and
Team Captain.
While on the team, he helped to lead Carnegie Mellon to a perfect
regular
season (10-0) and to the second round of the NCAA DIII
playoffs, setting a school
record for most wins as they finished
(11-1) that season. He is currently a PhD student
at UCSB in the
Materials Engineering Department, working in the area of organic
electronics. James will be coaching linebackers and special teams
at SBHS. |

Mike Silva - Defensive Line
This is Coach Silva’s first year
as a Don. He was born and raised in Fresno, California and graduated
from Hoover High School in 1977. He played varsity football and varsity
baseball
and received the varsity football MVP award as a lineman
his senior year. He went on to play football at Fresno City College
for one year before receiving a football scholarship to Fresno State,
where as a Bulldog, he started as a defensive tackle/end for two
years. He has spent 5 years coaching in the youth football program.
He has also spent 3 years coaching at the J.V level at San Marcos
High School. He has been married for 25 years to his wife, Donna.
They have
twins, Nicholas (19) and Terra (19). Coach Silva spends
his free time with his family, playing tennis or on his Harley. |

Rudy Ybarra - Athletic Equipment Manager
Rudy has been working at Santa Barbara High School as the Athletic
Equipment Manager
for the past 18 years. He is a member of the
SBHS Alumni Class of 1976. While attending high school, Rudy played
soccer for the Santa Barbara High School Soccer Program from 1974-1976.
He was also formerly the Dons Boys Soccer Coach from 1989 thru
1996. He went on to coach the Girls Soccer Program from 1997 thru
2005. He stll spends time coaching soccer in the Santa Barbara
community, but more importantly Rudy is responsible for outfitting
your sons with
the proper equipment and uniforms and in making
sure that the filed is prepped and ready for game time on Friday
nights. Thank you Rudy for all that you do behind the scenes. |

David Martinez - Asst. Athletic Equipment Manager
David is another SBHS alumni and a member of the Class of 1973. He
has been working with the Santa Barbara High School Football Program
since the 1998 Football Season where he has assisted with the football
equipment and field preparation. David has been a great asset to
the football program and Athletic Department at Santa Barbara High
for the past 10 years. David works closely with Rudy and without
his dedication and hard work the field and the boys wouldn't be
ready for Friday nights. |

Art Gonzales - Head of Grounds
Art is another SBHS alumni
and he is also a member of the Class of 1973. He has been working with
Santa Barbara High School since the 1990 as the head of grounds. He
is responsible for getting our field ready for the Friday night games.
While he was a student at Santa Barbara High, he was a member of both
the soccer and baseball teams. Art works closely with his assitant
grounds keepers: Javier Acosta and Julio Flores. A big thank you to
the entire grounds crew for preparing our field for Friday nights. |
